Client Testimonials

In 2009 I was referred to Julie McAllister due to being diagnosed with a life changing illness and severe PTSD.  To make a very long story short, I was in law enforcement and was involved in several life threatening situations.  Prior to that, I did not grow up in the healthiest family environment and carried a lot of hidden shame and guilt into my adult life.  In 1995 I was evaluated by a psychologist and it was determined that I could no longer function as an officer due to the PTSD.

Shortly after leaving the police department I found myself in a great depression and started to self-medicate.  Due this this action I made some bad choices and my life went into a whirlwind of depression.  I thought my life was over.  Not only having to deal with losing my dream job, but now I was told that I had this illness.  What was I going to do?  Yes.  My first thought, well let's be honest my only thought, was to leave this earth.  I had given up.

I had gone to many different counselors and none of them "got me".  I was referred to one last therapist.  I remember the day very well.  I walked into Julie's office and bluntly told her that she was my LAST attempt of getting well.  (I think she understood what I was saying).  I was angry, scared, hurt, confused.  I was having nightly terrors and could not function on a day to day basis.

Julie understood me.  She "got me".   She would not give up on me.  I'm not saying that it was easy going to see her, listening to her, listening to ME, but Julie was there with me through this process.  She helped me stabilize myself.  She showed me that I was worth something.  She taught me the skills to gain "me" back.  We cried, we laughed, and I yelled at her many times out of frustration, but she never gave up on me.

Three years later I am healthy, I am married, I am reunited with my children and I desire to LIVE as much life as I can squeeze in every day.  I am someone and I do matter.  I have a place in this world that I didn't believe I had or deserved.

Simply stated, Julie McAllister gave me my life back.  She provided me with the tools and skills to use those tools to function and thrive in this world.  I will be forever grateful to her.  Remember I said she was my last stop?  She HEARD that and made sure she did everything in her power to hold true to that, but not in the way I expected.  She made it the last stop for me so I would feel like I was somebody.  Like I did matter, and that I was truly loved.

Julie - Thank you, for giving me my life back. You are truly gifted and you are meant to save many more lives.

“Thankful”

When I first met Julie, I was in survival mode. Just getting by, not taking chances. Avoiding things that might upset my apple cart. But over time, she was able to teach me techniques that helped me diffuse the situations that were holding me back from living life. Her knowledge in E.M.D.R training, mixed with her unique style of therapy truly changed the way I view my past and how I will live in the future, and therefore, I will be forever “thankful”.
